As of this writing, it's December 25,
2013 and I'm at that point where I'm still wondering what purpose
life holds for me. For this reason, I'm starting this blog to
document my days as a bum (freeter, freeloader, etc...).
I resigned from work about 6 months ago
because I felt that I wasn't happy with the way my life was going. My
future was practically assured if I only continued working my ass off
for this BPO company in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines. The pay was
okay and I had a lot of benefits. But since I wasn't happy, I felt
that there was no point going through with it. Every time I went to
work I had to put on a facade and sometime during those 3-4 years, I
simply lost myself.
In the 6 months that I've been out of a
job, I got in touch with my “younger self”. I've always enjoyed
playing video games and I rediscovered that enjoyment once again.
Before I discovered the joys and hardships of playing basketball, I
was very much a video game addict. If left alone, I would play games
like Street Fighter, Super Mario or Donkey Kong on our Family
Computer (Famicom/NES) for hours on end. It was also through these
games that I got to know my first friends.
I was surfing the net one day when I
chanced upon a website called the Humble Bundle. Basically, the site
features bundles of games that you can buy for as low as a dollar. To
cut the long story short, I purchased a bundle and started playing
one of the games (I think that was Burnout Paradise), and I had an
idea. I wanted to work on something that I really liked to do. As
you've noticed it took me more than 6 months and 2 paragraphs to tell
you the whole point of this post and blog. Is this really the thing
for me? Will I find purpose in life by starting this blog? I really
don't know the answer to that. However, I do know this, I'm going to
give this site my all.
If you're reading this, I hope that
you'll follow/join me in my journey to find meaning in life through
playing video games. Hit up the comments section to share your
thoughts about videogames and life in general.
